Collective atomic recoil laser in 3D ultra‐cold atomic clouds (WP3, also WP1)
Objectives: 1. Formulate the basic model for N atoms scattering an incident laser beam. 2. Inclusion of the recoil motion and its feedback on the emission process. 3. Describe the onset of the instability and the transition from isotropic spontaneous emission to stimulated backscattering. 4. Implementation of numerical codes. 5. Study of temperature and size effects.
Expected Results: 1. Description ab-initio of the emergence of the collective recoil lasing. 2. Description of the transition from isotropic multi-scattering to a single backscattering mode. 3. Observation of spontaneous formation of periodic 3D structures in atomic clouds.
4. Experimental implementation with cold or ultra-cold atomic clouds.
